How long is the extra time in the UEFA European Championship?
In the UEFA European Championship, if a match ends in a draw at the end of regular time, it goes into extra time. Extra time is played to determine the winner of the match before resorting to a penalty shootout. The duration of the extra time in the UEFA European Championship is as follows:
Quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final: If a match ends in a draw at the end of regular time, two additional periods of 15 minutes each are played. These are known as "extra time" or "extra periods."
Group stage and round of 16: In these matches, if a draw occurs at the end of regular time, there is no extra time played. Instead, the winner is determined immediately by a penalty shootout.
It is important to note that starting from the 2020 edition of the UEFA European Championship, a new rule was introduced. In the knockout stages, if a match goes into extra time, each team is allowed to make an additional substitution during this period.
